Liberalisation of energy markets around the world is having a profound impact upon the way in which energy companies operate. It was not uncommon for a single company, often state owned, to own and operate the entire gas chain from well to meter. The introduction of competition is increasing the number of market players and more often than not results in the unbundling of production, transmission, distribution, storage and supply.
